About me

Hello, I’m Birgit Patenall, a professional counsellor and registered member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). I have a special interest in women in midlife who are facing challenges due to major life transitions, such choosing or changing a career, divorce or separation, empty nest, grief & loss, caring for elderly parents, effects of menopause, retirement, or generally feeling a lack of direction in life. Together we can work to explore your situation and find a more positive way forward.

I also offer group counselling for women going through divorce or separation, and a support group for women who have migrated to Australia and are struggling with the difficulties of living apart from family.

WORK WITH ME

Let’s Work Together

There are several ways I work with my clients, and together we can work out the best option for you, whether it is one-on-one in-person sessions, online or telephone counselling, or in a counselling or support group. Whichever way we choose to work together, my approach is the same – it will be a holistic, non-judgemental, patient and supportive experience.

Therapy methods:

  • Gestalt Psychotherapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

  • Person-Centred Therapy

  • Solution-focused brief therapy

  • Group Counselling

One-on-one Counselling

Finding the right counsellor is important.

Not every counsellor will be right for you; everyone is different and has different needs. I will create a safe space for you to share your experience, and listen to you, in a warm and non-judgemental way.

Group Counselling Divorce & Separation

You are not alone in Divorce

It can often be helpful to meet with others who are experiencing similar issues. My group counselling and support groups consist of small groups of no more than six women who meet regularly online.
